Wine of the Week: 2014 Philippe Alliet 'Chinon'
Philippe Alliet is a remarkable producer, a family and generational affair passed down along to Claude, Philippe and their son Pierre, who inherited the responsibility of the winery in 1983. The Alliet family organically farms their wines on a small-scale 18 hectares vineyard, meaning an incredibly small production rate and a focus on quality over quantity, and phenomenal attention to detail.
This week's Wine of the Week is an absolute belter.
Carlos says: "Now this is a wine that is absolutely delicious. An earthy wine with plenty of leather, pencil shavings, graphite, and classic Loire Valley red wine aromas like green bell pepper, red and black fruits (currants, plums, cherries etc.).
The Loire Valley is a very diverse wine region, fuelled by one of the last wild rivers in Europe. Everything from dry whites, to full-bodied reds, sweet whites, all come out of the Loire, and each one has a huge amount of depth to it.
Cabernet Franc is a medium-bodied red wine, and this one goes beautifully with barbecued eye fillet and charred capsicums."
