"Shashi and Devandra are young and relatively new to winemaking (in comparison with those generational winemaking families we often see), but their dedication tot he craft is second to none. Shashi's eye for detail comes from spending eight years learning the craft with Phillip Jones, who arguably makes the best Pinot Noir in Australia. Climate and soil can help shape your wine, but it's this kind of eye for detail that really makes your wine.
Avani is an organic, biodynamic and minimal intervention vineyard in a place where disease pressure is extremely high. The wines are made using indigenous yeast ferments, no fining, no filtration, and minimal sulphur, so it's absolutely worth noting that a lot of hard work goes into making these wines what they are.
A the 2019 Amrit Sauvignon Blanc is a very showy wine, with plenty of character, savoury aromatic herbs, and is intensely perfumed. You can expect tones of ripe citrus, notes of tropical fruits, and a very long, persistent mineral finish that is reflective of the soils in the Mornington Peninsula. Best served lightly chilled to capture all of the flavours, no need for decanting. This bottle is ready to drink and has potential to develop further over 3 - 4 years.
Delicious with some fleshy crab mixed with spiced mayonnaise on toast!"
